Celebrate "National Beef Month" with some delicious nutrition!

Did you know?  There are 29 cuts of beef certified as "Lean" or "Extra Lean" according to government guidelines, giving you an awesome punch of protein with very little fat.  Check out these facts about Lean Beef (figures based on a 3.0 ounce serving):

-- Nearly half of the daily value for protein
-- Less than 10 grams of total fat
-- 4.5 grams or less of saturated fat
-- Less than 95 mg of cholesterol

In addition to all the Lean Beef cuts listed here, ground beef that is 95% lean // 5% fat is also considered Lean.

Beef qualifies as "Extra Lean" if a 3.5 ounce serving has:
-- Less than 5 grams of total fat
-- 2 grams or less of saturated fat
-- Less than 95 mg cholesterol

The website Beefnutrition.org has a wealth of information about the nutritional value of beef.  Check out this chart that shows how many of America's favorite cuts of beef are indeed lean, such as: sirloin, flank steak, and brisket.  Page 2 of the PDF chart has detailed nutritional data on each of the cuts.  Here is a great article on the role of protein in healthy eating: "The Power of Protein: Why you need protein in your diet."
