Jared Knock of Willow Lake, S.D. was named the winner of the South Dakota Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher Discussion Meet contest held recently at the SDFB Centennial Convention in Sioux Falls.

The Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. The judges are looking for the contestant who offers constructive criticism, cooperation and communication while analyzing agricultural problems and developing solutions.

Braeton Hill of Hetland, S.D., and Jennifer Hurlbert and Joslyn Hurlbert both of Raymond, S.D., rounded out the top four.

By winning the Discussion Meet, Knock received a $500 cash award and an expense-paid trip to the 2018 American Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Nashville, where he will represent South Dakota in the national YF&R competition.
