Tours of Fleurish Flower Farm & Design near Elk Point and the Jensen Farm near Burbank will be offered to the public as part of the South Dakota Farm Bureau (SDFB) Summer Event Series on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
The event begins at Fleurish Flower Farm & Design at 2 p.m. with tours of the unique gardens and grounds. The Reid and Marilyn Jensen farm tour will start at 4 p.m. and include a complimentary meal of locally-grown produce.
Fleurish Flower Farm & Design is home to various annuals, perennials and an heirloom pumpkin patch. The flower farm is primarily open to the public for you-pick and special events and includes a grass runway for flying enthusiasts to attend the farm’s events.
Chad and Christy Heckathorn own the Elk Point farm, which was recognized by the S.D. Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources as the S.D. Specialty Crop Producer of the Year in 2023. In addition to the flower farm, Chad raises corn and soybeans.
“Chad’s agronomy experience and my love for all things beautiful make us a great team,” said Christy Heckathorn, Fleurish Flower Farm & Design.
The Reid and Marilyn Jensen farm is a third-generation operation. They have four sons and operate a diversified farming operation that raises corn, soybeans, wheat, and livestock.
Dale and Sherree Christensen from Christensen Farms are featured guests at the Jensen location. They will discuss their livestock feeding operation near Beresford and the practices they use to be good stewards of the land.
One of the tour's goals is to connect people from local towns and cities with ag producers in the area for an evening of enjoying the growing season, from flowers to crops to livestock. Both events are free and open to the public. Fleurish Flower Farm & Design is located at 47663 SD Hwy 50, Elk Point, and The Jensen Farm is located at 46829 308th Street, Burbank.
